Aims / Objectives

  1. To present important research findings from Hong Kong and beyond on the impacts of ICT use on learning and teaching and the factors that influence them;
  2. To provide a platform for the presentation and sharing of outcomes from research and development work conducted by practitioners and researchers to advance our knowledge and understanding of the many issues related to technology-supported learning and teaching;
  3. To discuss recent research, good educational practices, and new technologies, with a view to furthering research and practice that support learning and learning communities with IT.

Details

The overarching theme of the symposium is "Learning Communities and Technology: The Next Ten Years". You are invited to participate in the CITE Research Symposium (CITERS) on 5-7 March 2009 (Thursday to Saturday), at the Meng Wah Complex lecture theatres, the University of Hong Kong.  Symposium activities are organized over a period of 3 days, comprising four half-day sessions and two half-day research workshops.  On the first two days of events, it consists of a variety of events including a research workshop on specified topics, a keynote speech and parallel events that include demonstrations, workshops, and paper presentations. On the third day, there will be exciting plenary presentations, parallel sessions and we will be offering light lunch to participants.  The Symposium will include demonstration sessions such as different classroom uses of web2.0 applications that include wikis and blogs, eportfolios, mobile technology, etc. to support learning and teaching.  The Symposium will include interactive plenary sessions by students, teachers and researchers from large scale technology innovation and implementation projects conducted by CITE. In addressing the symposium theme, The event will also feature keynote speakers from US, France, Spain and Hong Kong to present the latest research findings and development related to technological advances as well as policies and practices on IT in education. Dr K. K.  Chan, Deputy Secretary (Curriculum and Quality Assurance) of the Education Bureau, HKSAR Government will also be presenting the vision and implementation of the third IT in Education Strategy for Hong Kong.

The symposium has the following subthemes:

  • Web 2.0 and mobile technologies in learning
  • Librarianship, knowledge management, and information literacy
  • Good practices in technology use in schools, higher education, and the workplace
  • Knowledge building and computer-supported collaborative learning
